Jacobson's to Cut 225 Jobs

Retailer says it needs to streamline operations, restore profitability

Jacobson Stores, Inc. (Jackson, Mich.) has announced it will reduce its 4100-employee work force by about 225 positions, or 5.5 percent, “to streamline operations and restore the company's profitability without compromising customer service standards. The retailer said the reductions will largely take place in its buying, logistics and store-support functions.

President and ceo Carol Williams said eliminating 225 jobs is “painful but necessary in order to bring expenses more in line with sales and return the company to profitability.”

Jacobson's operates about 25 apparel stores, mostly in Florida and the Midwest.
