Latte and a Penthouse While You Wait

New airport shopping concept to open in Cincinnati airport

Published

on

Combining the airport newsstand with the airport coffee concession, the Hudson Group will open its first Hudson News Euro CafŽ in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport later this month. This coffee-and-a-magazine concept is described as a “large, airy, inviting retail location,” and a way to spend time between flights “purchasing a cool blended fruit beverage, a favorite latte or cappuccino, browse a selection of over 1000 different magazines and newspaper titles and check out hardback and paperback books in the Book corner.”

Airport retailing has boomed in recent years, thriving on an affluent demographic trapped in a building and victimized by increasing flight delays and long waits between connections. While shops have burgeoned selling everything from expensive apparel to leather goods to packaged food items to sporting goods, the basics of airport shopping remain something to drink and something to read. Certainly, that is what Hudson Group is counting on with this combination of the two.

The Hudson Group is the retail division of Hudson News Co. (East Rutherford, N.J.). Its chain of more than 180 airport shops across the country includes Hudson News, Book Corner, Discover theme Shops and Grand Stand Sports.
