Secret Garden is part of a national green space campaign

Macy's Inc. (Cincinnati) will kick off its annual flower show on Sunday, March 23, in six locations.

The “Secret Garden” theme, which the company says “offers a peek behind the magic and majesty of lush landscapes,” is scheduled for Macy’s stores at Herald Square in New York, center city Philadelphia, Union Square San Francisco, downtown Minneapolis and State Street in Chicago.

The annual event began in 1946, as a promotion at the cosmetics counter of Macy’s San Francisco store.

This year, dramatic 14-foot-tall wrought iron gates will welcome customers into the first garden, which is said to include a 12-foot-tall floral gown, as well as the Bouquet of the Day, one-of-a-kind centerpieces created by leading floral designers.

The two-week event, until April 6, will also include fashion shows and cooking demonstrations.

A contemporaneous Cherry Blossom Show in the Washington, D.C., store will feature more than 30 Okame and Snow Goose cherry blossom trees.

In addition, each of Macy’s nearly 800 stores has selected a local park or green space, and shoppers can donate $1 or more at the register. Macy’s will match each donation, up to $250,000.
