Macy's Inc. (Cincinnati) plans to open two new Macy's stores in California this fall. Both locations are former Gottschalks stores which Macy's purchased during the Gottschalks bankruptcy process.

The 107,000-square-foot store in River Park in Fresno was built in 2004; the Visalia Mall location in Visalia is 150,000 square feet and dates back to 1995. The department store retailer plans to make some minor remodels and re-fixture both stores before opening in time for the 2009 holiday season.

Each store is expected to offer a wide selection of apparel and accessories for the whole family, as well as a limited assortment of home merchandise. “With these new locations, Macy's is expanding its presence and serving new customers in the important Central Valley market,” says Terry Lundgren, Macy's chairman, president and ceo. “We look forward to offering a locally-focused combination of fashion and value for which Macy's is well known.”

Macy's operates more than 840 department stores in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico under the names of Macy's and Bloomingdale's.
