The Sunseeker boat dealership in Pompano Beach, Fla., resembled a bank: lots of cubicles and literature stands sitting on an expanse of light-wood flooring. So, when MarineMax acquired that building to house a showroom for the Ferreti and Hatteras luxury yachts it sells, the company brought Pavlik Design Team (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) on board to give the space a more sophisticated, upscale feel.

Designers concede they started with a big built-in advantage: the dealership's all-glass façades, which offer views of luxury yachts moored at their slips. “The all-glass building provided us with an excellent opportunity to take advantage of the area's abundant natural light, as well as the surrounding lush lands and waterscape,” says Mark Hammil, Pavlik's account executive/project manager for the job. “Through the use of special materials, architectural glass and intricate detailing work, we sought to create an environment within the building that matched the elegance and sophistication of its surroundings.”

The upgraded showroom features a circular welcome desk, a bistro, workstations with glass partitions and lots of leather seating. On the space's rear wall are four cable-suspended plasma screens, stacked two-by-two, playing informational videos. “Those screens provide a powerful opportunity to draw the customer through the showroom by showcasing the MarineMax lifestyle,” says Pavlik project designer Wendy Wright.

The showroom's flooring and ceiling also communicate a nautical theme. Underfoot, designers mingled multicolored marble and wood flooring to create an abstract wave pattern through the center of the showroom. And above, wave-shaped curved suspended fabric pieces reinforce the floor pattern.
