Will close some in over-saturated markets

Mattress Firm (Houston) has announced a number of initiatives as it seeks to grow its business and make it operate more efficiently.

Within the past two years, the company has added 1700 stores, and many of the newly acquired stores overlap geographically with other stores owned by Mattress Firm. The company plans to unify all of its acquired under its national umbrella, as well as close under-performing stores or extra stores located in over-saturated areas. The company’s goal is to offer one store per 50,000 people in a general area, and it will pay fees to terminate leases early if necessary to close some of those extra stores. The company has not yet identified the number of stores it plans to close or the costs related to closing those stores.

The company also has plans to grow its omni-channel presence, boost productivity and offer more support for sales associates, reports the Houston Chronicle.
