McDonald's Reports Strong Global Sales

First quarter sales, revenue on the rise

McDonald's Corp. (Oak Brook, Ill.) announced global same-store sales for the first quarter ended March 31 rose 4.2 percent. Among specific markets, U.S. sales were up 1.5 percent; Europe up 5.2 percent; and Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa up 5.7 percent.

Revenue for the quarter increased 10 percent (excluding currency translation).

“For the first quarter, we delivered comparable sales and guest count growth in each geographic segment along with global double-digit operating income growth,” says McDonald’s ceo Jim Skinner. “As we move forward, we will continue to pursue opportunities to extend our relevance, sustain our momentum and create ongoing excitement for our customers.”
