Design Center will expand in the Northeast

The EXPO Design Center division of The Home Depot (Atlanta) announced plans to open eight stores in the next two years in the New York tri-state area. Plans are under way for stores in Bridgewater, N.J., Paramus, N.J., Smithtown, N.Y., and New Rochelle, N.Y. The company expects to open 35 to 40 stores in the metropolitan area in the next four years.

The Smithtown store will open in January 2001, followed by New Rochelle in February. The New Jersey units are expected to open in late 2001. The company said it is committed to opening eight stores in New Jersey within the next four years.

Additionally, the retailer plans to open in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Laguna Niguel, Calif., by the end of 2000. Within the next 18 months, EXPO Design Center plans to be in 17 of the top markets, with new stores in Chicago, Naples, Fla., Baltimore, St. Louis, Denver, Kansas City and Orlando. It will also be adding locations in its current markets – Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami and New York.
