Nike Inc. (Beaverton, Ore.) plans to open a new store in downtown Detroit with a mission to be “community oriented.” Among other things, that means that 80 percent of its employees will live within a five-mile radius of the store.

The location aims to “empower a healthy local community through the unifying power of sport and to serve as a catalyst for positive change by partnering with local organizations,” according to the Nike’s website.

The store, which is expected to be 19,500 square feet in size, will be housed in a former Woolworth’s shop and plans to operate as an environmentally-friendly store, reports The Detroit News.

The company has not released information publicly about the store’s plans, except in an application it made to have the store certified as a green building.
