Wal-Mart will open 33 new stores tomorrow

Thirty-three new Wal-Mart stores will open around the country on one day tomorrow. The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer will open 29 Supercenters and four discount stores across 22 states, including five stores in Texas, three in Georgia, three in Tennessee, and two stores each in Florida, Missouri and Wisconsin. During grand-opening ceremonies, Wal-Mart will donate $320,000 in charitable contributions, part ofthe Wal-Mart/Sam's Club “Good Works” program.

Next week, the world's largest retailer will open a discount store in Ketchikan, Alaska. Sam's Club has opened a new unit in Shenandoah , Texas, this month, and has relocated a store in Stafford, Texas. In the fiscal year that began Feb. 1, 2001, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. plans to open about 40 new discount stores domestically , 170-180 Supercenters, 15-20 Neighborhood Markets and 40-50 Sam's Clubs. Internationally, Wal-Mart plans to open 100-110 units during the year in countries in which the company already operates.
