Sherwin-Williams to acquire Duron

The Sherwin-Williams Co. (Cleveland) , the largest paint manufacturer in the U.S., has agreed to buy coatings company Duron Inc. (Beltsville, Md.), which has a network of 265 company-owned stores in the East.

The deal is valued at about $253 million in equity and other consideration, plus the assumption of certain financial obligations at closing.

Sherwin-Williams operates 2700 paint stores throughout North America and sells automotive finishing and refinishing products through nearly 200 wholesale branches in the US, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, and Peru. Its products include a variety of paints, finishes, coatings, applicators, and varnishes sold under the names Dutch Boy, Krylon, Martin-Senour, Red Devil, Sherwin-Williams, Thompson’s and Minwax.

Duron produces coatings, paints and primers, as well as wallcoverings. Its products include interior coverings for walls and wood surfaces (Plastic Kote, Signature Select), exterior coatings for weather protection and durability (Superior House & Trim, Weathershield) and industrial coatings for office buildings and manufacturing equipment (Dura Clad). Duron offers its coatings and paints through its own chain of 265 paint stores, as well as through authorized dealers.
