Planet Blue to Add Stores

Investments fueling expansion

Published

on

Six-unit apparel retailer Planet Blue (Santa Monica, Calif.) is preparing to expand outside its native Los Angeles. Six more units will open this year in Houston, Dallas, Miami and Atlanta, as well as in Hawaii and the L.A. area, according to Women’s Wear Daily.  Funding for the expansion has come from an investment by Planet Blue minority owner Breakwater Investment Management (Los Angeles).

The retailer sells its own Blue Life in-house line, as well as those from BB Dakota, Free People, For Love and Lemons, and Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent.

While past locations have been mall-based, going forward, the company is choosing “neighborhood” locations. The company expects to operate up to 40 stores within the next five years. Plans also include adding several stores in Tokyo, where it a joint venture partner already operates five units.
