ShopKo plans drugstore prototypes

Published

on

ShopKo Stores (Green Bay, Wis.) is developing a freestanding drugstore concept that will feature a pharmacy and an optical center. The retailer plans to open a pair of drugstore prototypes at as-yet-undisclosed locations in 2004.

“We are excited to be testing this concept,” says Sam Duncan, president and ceo. “It is a format that leverages our strength in health services and retailing. Furthermore, the two locations capitalize on the strong ShopKo brand. We anticipate that, once validated, the concept may become a significant growth opportunity.”

The company currently operates 141 ShopKo department stores and 219 Pamida convenience stores.
