Sears Holdings Corp. (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) announced it is testing a new freestanding appliance store concept. The pilot will begin May 18 in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Retailing Today reports the store will measure 10,000 square feet and feature interactive displays relying heavily on digital technologies. The store will features what Sears has named the “top 10 brands” in key appliances including refrigerators, dishwashers, dryers, rangers, wall ovens and vacuums.

The chain will open a “handful” of stores this year. The move comes amid store closings for Sears’s traditional department store format.
