Retailer's new Florida store is part of $100 million expansion plan

The new JC Penney store opening in the Mall at Wellington (Fla.) Green on October 5 is part of a 14-store, $100 million expansion program for the Plano, Texas-based retailer.

Plans to open 14 other stores this year are also in the works. All the new stores will feature what Penney is calling “greater shopping convenience” — wider aisles, improved lighting and larger signs. Store layouts will focus on key areas such as jeans, career sportswear, lingerie, bath, window treatments and men's business casual wear.

Other customer components of the new-store prototype include a full-service catalog desk, gift registry, portrait, optical, jewelry and watch repair, custom decorating services and an updated-looking styling salon that provides hairstyling services, manicures, pedicures and facials.

The Wellington location is the retailer's third in the Palm Beach area. There are existing Penney stores at Palm Beach Mall in West Palm Beach and Boynton Beach Mall in Boynton Beach.
