The Ohio Chapter of the Retail Design Institute (Cincinnati) hosted a Student Event Night sponsored by Macy’s (Cincinnati) and Mohawk Group (Calhoun, Ga.) February 18, 2016, at the Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites in downtown Cincinnati. The setting was host to the organization’s annual Student Design Competition, which challenged students to create a proposed modular retail environment, 4000 to 6000 square feet, that would encompass a wide range of goods from apparel to shoes, accessories and cosmetics, among others. All of the Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) student participants were recognized for their efforts, with entrants Kaley Sobanski and Kelly Almus taking home the overall win with their conscious consumerism store concept, “The Essence.” Prior to the students’ presentations, guests browsed project sketches from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP) students and mingled with fellow industry professionals.
