HMX Group Files for Bankruptcy

Chapter 11 petition submitted in Manhattan

Published

on

HMX Acquisition Corp. filed a voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection petition on October 19. Authentic Brands Group LLC is seeking approval to buy long-term licensing of HMX’s brands, with a plan to keep existing employees, brands and manufacturing facilities. HMX brands include Hickey Freeman, Coppley, Christopher Blue, Bobby Jones, Argyle Culture and more.

HMX’s Canadian affiliates are not impacted by the filing, and will not seek bankruptcy protection at this time.

Women’s Wear Daily reports that this is the second time in four years that the company has filed for bankruptcy protection. In addition, because the operational elements of HMX were not part of the Authentic Brands Group’s “stalking horse” bid, the company must seek an additional investor to fund operations, according to WWD.
