Target’s Merchandising Efforts Pay Off

Mannequins reportedly increase clothing sales 30 percent

In an effort to lure more customers and increase sales, Target (Minneapolis) has been focusing on improving its fashion, home and children’s departments, reports the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

For instance, the retailer began using more mannequins in its fashion departments rather than simply displaying them on hangers or tables. Sales of clothing featured on mannequins at 1400 of its stores increased by 30 percent leading up to the holidays. The retailer found that in 262 of its stores with updated displays in its home goods department, items were selling three to four times faster than stores in the area without the displays. It has also hired experts for many of its stores who will ensure shelves are stocked with the store’s best merchandise.

In addition, for the first time in a decade, it has launched a new, exclusive collection: a plus-size women’s line. It also plans to launch an exclusive beauty line and a children’s wear collection later this year.
