Published

on

The retirement of chairman L. Daniel Jorndt at The Walgreen Co. (Deerfield, Ill.) has resulted in a series of top management changes for the country's largest drugstore retailer.

Though Jorndt isn't scheduled to retire until next year, the company has named Jeffrey Rein president and coo. Current president and ceo David Bernauer will retain his ceo title and become chairman in January.

Rein, currently executive vp of marketing, started out as an assistant store manager in 1982. Walgreen said it will announce a new marketing chief later this week.

Bernauer, who started as a pharmacist in 1967, was named president and coo in January 1999. He became ceo a year later.
