Walgreens Optimistic About Closures

Hopes to only shutter 500 stores after Rite-Aid merger

Walgreens Boots Alliance (Deerfield, Ill.) announced it would only have to shutter about 500 stores if its planned purchase of Rite-Aid (Camp Hill, Penn.) goes through later this year.

When the deal was announced last October, both the company and analysts predicted far more closures would be necessary to address regulators’ antitrust concerns, reports Fortune.

Without any divestitures, a combination of the two drugstore chains would total 12,800 locations.
