Zagat a Store for You

Zagat Survey LLC (New York), the publisher of pocket guides to restaurants, hotels, movies and nightlife, is introducing this week its first New York City Shopping Guide, listing more than 2000 stores.

The Zagat reviews, capsule comments modeled after those in its dining guides, were culled from a survey of more than 7000 shoppers, most of them women in their 20s and 30s.

A majority reported that they were spending a bit more on average, with 76 percent hunting for bargains at sales and at discount stores like Century 21, one of the survey's highest-ranked stores.

“We felt that our methodology of having people share their experiences is something that was needed in the shopping area,” said Nina Zagat, half of the husband-and-wife publishing team.
