Retail Design Expo, Europe’s leading annual event for innovation and inspiration in retail design, visual merchandising, marketing, architecture  and shopfitting, has announced the shortlisted entries for its Retail Design Student Awards 2017, sponsored by ITAB UK.

The annual award, now in its third year, is designed to celebrate, encourage, and promote the future stars of retail design. The scheme sees students tackle live briefs from retailers and brands. This year the design challenges have been set by Adidas, Majestic Wine and Pret a Manger.

Students from Portsmouth and Middlesex have been working on a live brief from Adidas, those from Kingston and Glasgow worked on a live brief from Majestic Wines, while Manchester and Huddersfield tackled a brief set by Pret a Manger.

Huddersfield students Chloe Dinh, Izzy Dyson and Ningwei You have been shortlisted for the award, along with Johanna Hauke, Nicole Jenkins and Eloise Stocks from Manchester.

The brief set by Majestic Wine head of design Ed Wright has seen Veera Ahlholm, Faye Cotteril and Alyicia Hinrichsen from Glasgow School of Art shortlisted along with Kingston University students Annabel Simmons, Davina Sinjorz and Luiza Darie.

Adidas director of retail concepts Sigrid Brewka-Steeves set the brief for the University of Portsmouth and Middlesex University. Portsmouth students Eloise Day, Kristina Narvilaite and Nurseli have been shortlisted alongside three second-year interiors students from Middlesex University, Hanna Stauch, Ka Wing Chan and Roxanne Stone.

I’m really delighted that we’ve got three very different briefs from three very different retailers and brands,” says design consultant and awards organiser Lynda Relph-Knight. “It’s really encouraging, as ever, to see interiors students rising to the challenge of retail and evolving interesting ideas that often go beyond the retailer's expectations.”

ITAB UK chief business officer Roy French says: “We are really proud to be supporting the Retail Design Student Awards. We are getting great recognition from supporting the scheme, and it is wonderful to see that some big brands are getting on board and supporting it as well. Supporting the scheme dovetails with our long term business planning, which focuses on finding and supporting new retail design talent, which is vital for the future of the industry.”

Winners of the Retail Design Student Awards will be announced at Retail Design Expo 2017, on 8th May at 12.20 pm followed by a drinks reception. Registration to attend Retail Design Expo is entirely free and can be done online at www.retaildesignexpo.com
