DESIGN FIRM CUN FF (China) was recently charged with designing the 10th location for Hercules Fitness, a fitness brand that made its debut in 2021. The resulting 86,111-square-foot space in Kunming features a contemporary interior with sharp edges, a dramatic color scheme and a sleek vibe.

Boasting a multi-functional training room, a Pilates classroom, a countercurrent swimming pool, a free strength area, upscale locker rooms with personal wardrobes, and even a self-service laundry area, the retailer’s overall design strives to support its mantra of “Sports, Life and Warmth.”

In addition to funky geometric ceilings and light fixtures, mirrored glass is a staple, which was intentionally used to blur boundaries and visually extend the interior. Feng Fei, Chief Designer of the project, believes that a gym is different from a typical commercial space and doesn’t require much decoration. Thus, Feng’s team opted for minimalistic lines, a black, white and gray palette, and clear functional divisions.
