Supermarket chain Aldi (Essen, Germany) unveiled plans to expand its health-food offerings to better align with consumer demand. The chain will expand its selection of organic and gluten-free goods, as well as remove artificial ingredients from some products.

Business Insider reports this move will make Aldi a greater threat to Whole Foods Market Inc. (Austin, Texas), which specializes in the health food market.

Aldi has also removed synthetic colors, added MSG and partially hydrogenated oils form its own brand products. The stores will also see expanded selections of organic meat and produce.
