Aldi Nord (The Netherlands) is opening a cashierless store in the Dutch city of Utrecht in The Netherlands, according to a company press release. The AI-powered autonomous store will feature technology supported by Triago, an Israel-based company that specializes in checkout technology.

Set at 3982 square feet, the store called ALDI Shop & Go opens July 20. Similar to other cashierless concepts in recent years, customers will be able to walk in, grab their items and leave without having to scan any items. Using a combination of shelf sensors and cameras, receipts and payments will be handled digitally.

“The true magic of discount retailing is simplicity,” says Sinanudin Omerhodzic, CTO, Aldi. “We therefore always use technology where it specifically makes us better and faster. With ALDI Shop & Go, we have developed a concept that brings together the discount idea and computer vision technology – always with the aim of making shopping as easy as possible.”
