The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) announced the nominees for its annual awards, to be presented at the New York Public Library on June 2, 2003.

The contenders for women's wear designer of the year include Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs (who won last year's men's wear award), Donna Karan and Narciso Rodriguez (last year's women's wear award winner).

All but Herrera have won the award in the past. “Carolina is the fresh face on the list,” said Stan Herman, president of the organization.

Competing for the men's wear award are Sean Combs, Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren. Combs has been nominated for an award three times and has yet to win.

Zac Posen, Behnaz Sarafpour and Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler will be vying for the Perry Ellis award for new design talent.
