Amazon Increases Holiday Hiring

Signals shift in consumer shopping

Published

on

Amazon (Seattle) has announced plans to hire 100,000 employees for the holiday shopping season. This is a 25-percent increase from last year’s numbers, whereas most retailers anticipate hiring the same number of hires as they did last year.

This announcement signals a change in the way Americans are shopping, reports The Los Angeles Times. Traditionally, most holiday hires were those in bricks-and-mortar stores working in stockrooms and behind cash registers. As more consumers turn to online shopping for their purchases, however, holiday hiring is also shifting to the warehouses that support those online purchases.
