Amazon Spins off Wireless Biz

Third party manages inventory and shipment

Published

Responding to consumer's requests, Amazon.com (Seattle) opened a Wireless Store on its e-tail site Tuesday. The new online e-tailer offers available service plans and nationally known brand phones: AT&T Wireless, Sprint PCS and VoiceStream Wireless, allowing side-by-side comparisons of phone models and services.

While the new operation faces competition from other wireless Internet stores, like Point.com, Amazon.com states wireless phones were among the top-requested items by its customers shopping for electronics.

CellStar Corp. handles the inventory and shipment of the phones being offered.
