Sony was named “best brand” for the fourth consecutive year in the annual Harris Poll.

Places two to five were occupied by Kraft, Dell, General Motors and Microsoft.

Rounding out the top 10 were Ford, Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, Kellogg's and General Electric and Pepsi Cola (tied for tenth). Microsoft, Kellogg's and Procter & Gamble were not in last year's list. The two brands that dropped out of the top 10 this year from last were Tide and Honda.

Harris polled 879 adults nationwide by online between June 16 and 22, 2003. Survey responses were spontaneous and respondents did not choose from among a prepared list of brand names.

Harris said the poll underlines the linkage between corporate reputation and brand image. All of the brands mentioned are also company names, and between 65% and 89% of those who picked each of them said that the reputation of the company was a very important reason for choosing the brand as the best brand.
