Best Buy Co. Inc. (Richfield, Minn.) is launching a new version of its mobile-phone shop concept at three major U.S. malls.

According to The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, the consumer electronics retailer said the “Mobile Life” stores will be larger than existing Best Buy Mobile outlets, but smaller than its retail stores, which average 40,000 square feet.

The stores will open later this month at Mall of America (Bloomington, Minn.), Fair Oaks Mall (Fairfax, Va.) and Woodfield Mall (Schaumberg, Ill.). They will sell cell phones, laptops, hand-held devices and accessories.

Best Buy created its mobile division earlier this year as part of a joint venture with Carphone Warehouse Group Plc (London), a British cell phone company.
