Best Buy Launches Intel Zones

Partnership is chipmaker’s largest retail effort

Best Buy Co. (Richfield, Minn.) stores are partnering with Intel Corp. (Portland, Ore.) to showcase the latest Intel technologies, including 3-D printing and augmented reality, many before they even reach the mass market.

The 240-square-foot Intel Technology Experience zones will launch in 50 Best Buy stores by the end of the month. The first opened last week in Portland. The Intel zones are the latest example of Best Buy’s strategy to establish itself as a technology expert through its relationships with industry-leading partners. Best Buy recently began its rollout of Samsung and Sony stores-within-stores, which highlight new items such as 4K TVs.

A spokeswoman for Intel told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the partnership with Best Buy is the chipmaker’s largest initiative for a dedicated physical presence in retail stores.
