Bill Fisher Joins Gap’s Board …and More

Gap Inc (San Francisco), a clothing retailer, elected Bill Fisher to its board of directors. Fisher is the son of the company founders Doris and Don Fisher, and a former 15-year veteran of the company.

Coldwater Creek Inc (Sandpoint, Idaho), a women’s apparel retailer, announced the resignation of Tim Martin, senior vp and cfo, and the appointment of John Hayes as interim cfo until a permanent successor is named.

Devanlay S.A. (Paris), owner of apparel retailer Lacoste, appointed Steve Birkhold ceo of its U.S. subsidiary. Birkhold will replace current ceo and president Robert Siegel in January 2010.

Schréder Lighting USA (Chicago), an outdoor lighting specialist, has appointed Mark Domzalski operations manager.

Almo Professional A/V (Philadelphia), an electronics distributor, has hired Dave Maniscalco as its Midwest territory sales manager.

STORE OPENINGS

Apple (Cupertino, Calif.), a consumer electronics manufacturer and retailer, opened stores in Greenwich, Conn., and Nashua, N.H.

Two retailers – American Apparel (Los Angeles) and Books-A-Million (Birmingham, Ala.) – have opened stores in the Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hill, N. J.

hhgregg (Indianapolis), a retailer of consumer electronics and home goods, opened two stores in Richmond, Va.

BUSINESS BRIEFS

Equity One Inc (North Miami Beach, Fla.), an owner, developer and operator of shopping centers, has purchased a 22-acre property on Long Island, New York. The company plans to redevelop the site, which formerly housed the world headquarters of Avis Rent A Car, as a retail complex.

Inside Edge Commercial Interior Services (Eagan, Minn.), a flooring services company, has expanded its services to include concrete polishing.

Smith & Fong Co. (San Francisco), a flooring manufacturer, has developed a soy-based adhesive system. The company plans to use the adhesive on all of its Plyboo plywood and flooring by the first quarter of 2010.

AWARDS

Zeftron Nylon (Dalton, Ga.), a carpet yarn manufacturer, has awarded its first annual Sustainable Practices Award to Paul Westbrook, director of sustainable development at Texas Instruments (Dallas). Joshua Brugeman, sustainability director for J.S. Vig Construction (Ann Arbor, Mich.), was also recognized with an honorable mention. The awards are given to facility, architect and design professionals who use sustainable practices in work, at home and in their community.
