Dutch architect hired to consult for CondŽ Nast magazines

Rem Koolhaas, the Dutch architect whose extensive body of work includes Prada's new American stores, has been hired by CondŽ Nast to “offer editorial and marketing advice.”

CondŽ Nast is the U.S. publisher of such fashion titles as Vogue, Architectural Digest, Mademoiselle, Glamour, GQ, Vanity Fair and House & Garden.

“We thought it would be exciting to bring another mind into what we do,” said CondŽ Nast editorial director James Truman, “particularly the mind of someone who is brilliant at drawing different media and different ideas together.”

Koolhaas'new book, to be published in the fall, will be a monograph on shopping and why it is one of the major forces in reshaping architecture. As such, he and Truman have both said that the CondŽ Nast magazine Lucky will be of particular interest because of its focus on retail. The Pritzker Prize-winning architect said he was interested in applying theories about design to larger cultural issues. His newest Prada store is scheduled to open in Manhattan's SoHo in the fall.
