Calzedonia Group Looks to U.S.

Plans to compete with Victoria’s Secret

Intimate-apparel retailer Calzedonia Group (Verona, Italy) announced it plans to open its first U.S. store in the next couple of years. Currently, it is considering launching its presence in New York, reports Bloomberg.

The retailer operates more than 3800 stores, mostly throughout Europe and some in Hong Kong and Japan. It does not plan to expand further into the Asian market.

The American intimate-apparel market is dominated by stores owned by L Brands Inc. (Columbus, Ohio), which includes Victoria Secret and La Senza. Those stores earned $11.4 billion in revenue last year.

Founder Sandro Veronesi said, “There is a dominant competitor in the United States, but that is maybe a reason why also women would like to have an alternative.”
