Chelsea Market, a popular food marketplace in West Chelsea, N.Y., will undergo construction to expand, adding eight new spaces for vendors. The expansion will come before the proposed addition of office towers to the structure, which has ignited public furor, The New York Times reports.

The additional 5700 square feet was formerly occupied by Amy’s Bread. Construction on the project is underway.

In November, Jamestown Properties, an acquisition and management firm based in Cologne, Germany, received city approval to add two office towers to the building, for a total of 300,000 square feet of space, according to The Times.
