AWARD OF MERIT – NON-HOLIDAY WINDOW DISPLAY: APPAREL
Summer 2005 Fashion windows
David Jones,
Sydney

Taking a cue from David Jones' summer catalogue shot on location in Italy, the retailer created a fashion window display designed to resemble pop-up postcards.

For the backdrops, shots of the Amalfi Coast were turned into hand-drawn line drawings, printed onto board and then profile cut to give a 3-D effect. On the floor, printed stone pavings were also re-created from line drawings.

Props, including suitcases, scooters, lemon crates and flowers, sat in juxtaposition to the backdrops, while mannequins, adorned in brightly colored summer fashions, took center stage.

Further enhancing the setting were vinyl decals of phrases one might write on a postcard, such as “promenading in Positano,” and “Bellissimo! Arriving in Amalfi!”

Judges enjoyed how the simplicity of the setting and focus of the design made the colorful fashions stand out.
