Dick’s Sporting Goods (Pittsburgh) has detailed plans to open a of Dick’s House of Sport store in spring 2024. Information on the new store was included in a news release in which the retailer announced it has become the official retail sponsor of the Boston Marathon and B.A.A. Distance Medley events.

In celebration of the 127th running of the marathon today (April 17), Dick’s also unveiled a building-length “Sports Change Lives” banner featuring the tagline “Running Boston Changes You” at the future location of the House of Sport locale.

“We are honored to join forces with the Boston Athletic Association to support race participants and spectators,” said Mark Rooks, VP, Category Marketing & Partnerships, Dick’s Sporting Goods. “We believe in the power of sports to change lives and know that running the Boston Marathon can do just that.”

Located near the Boston Marathon finish line, the store will open in the Prudential Center next year. Dick’s House of Sport Boston will be a 100,000-plus square-foot-store that offers athletes with gear for team sports; a selection of on-trend footwear; preferred athletic apparel brands; tour-level equipment, apparel, and footwear for the golfer; gear for outdoor adventures; and in-store experiences including a climbing wall, HitTrax batting cages, and golf bays with TrackMan simulators.

Dick’s was named VMSD’s Peter Glenn/Retailer of the Year for 2022 last fall. In our profile of the chain, the House of Sport was described as being built on these four pillars:

  • A shopping experience embracing a try-before-you-buy ethos.
  • Providing service in the form of a floor staff well-versed in their sporting specialties.
  • Creating a sense of community by installing venues that encourage interaction.
  • Bringing products to life through such shop-in-shops as The House of Cleats and HitTrax batting cages.
