Dollar Tree Selling 330 Stores

Units will operate under Dollar Express banner

To address regulatory concerns ahead of its merger with Family Dollar Stores (Charlotte, N.C.) Dollar Tree Inc. (Chesapeake, Va.) will sell 330 of its stores to private equity firm Sycamore Partners (New York). The 330 stores account for roughly $45.5 million of Dollar Tree’s operating income, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Sycamore Partners would operate the stores under the Dollar Express banner, which Dollar Tree acquired as part of its 2000-store acquisition of Dollar Express Inc. (Philadelphia).

The Dollar Tree-Family Dollar Stores merger, if approved, will combine the second and third largest retailers in the dollar-store category and would create the largest company in that category with more than 13,000 stores under both brands.
