Burberry hires Liz Claiborne executive Angela Ahrendts to replace Rose Marie Bravo

Burberry Group PLC (London) has named Angela Ahrendts, currently executive vp at Liz Claiborne Inc. (New York), to replace Rose Marie Bravo as ceo of the company in mid-2006.

Bravo, whose contract as ceo expires on July 1, 2006, will take on the newly created role of vice chairman. Ahrendts will begin work with Burberry as an executive director on Jan. 9, 2006, to ensure a smooth transition.

Ahrendts is currently responsible for womenswear and menswear brands at Liz Claiborne, including Juicy Couture and DKNY Jeans. She joined the company in 1998 and helped oversee the diversification of the corporation from 10 to 41 brands. She will leave on Oct. 21, 2005. Her responsibilities will be assumed by Trudy Sullivan.
