Federated to Brand The Bay

U.S. department store retailer to supply private labels for Canadian chain

Federated Department Stores (Cincinnati) has announced that its Federated Merchandising Group division will become the private-label supplier to The Bay, the department store retail division of Hudson's Bay Co. (Toronto). FMG is the New York-based division of Federated that develops and markets private labels for Federated's stores under such brands as I.N.C., Clubroom and Charter Club.

“As the world marketplace becomes increasingly smaller,” said FMG president Leonard Marcus, “Federated will continue to develop strategic alliances with non-competing retailers to leverage our investment in private brand development, as well as to strengthen the brand names through international exposure.” FMG brands are current carried by department store retailers in Japan, Australia, South America and Bermuda.

The Bay will begin carrying a broad range of Federated brands this fall, and the expectation is that by year-end, FMG merchandise will be appearing in more than 80 of the Bay's 100 stores throughout Canada.
