Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati) plans to open a total of 14 new stores this year — 11 new department stores, including two replacement stores, two new Bloomingdale's home stores and a new Burdines furniture gallery. The company's new outlets will be located in the following cities:

* Two Macy's East department stores, in Orlando and Jersey City, N.J.* Four Macy's West department stores, in Scottsdale, Ariz.; Capitola, Temecula and Westminster, Calif.* Three Bloomingdale's department stores, in Willowbrook and Bridgewater, N.J. (both converted Stern's locations) and Orlando.* Two Bloomingdale's home stores, in Las Vegas and downtown Chicago.* A Rich's department store in Columbus, Ga.* A Bon Marche department store in Yakima, Wash.* A Burdines furniture gallery in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Federated's store-opening plans were included in its earnings report for its fiscal 2001 year, ended February 2. For that period, Federated reported its same-store sales were down 5.3 percent from a year earlier. The company also reported annual sales of $15.6 billion in 2001, down from $16.6 billion a year earlier. The company said its lower sales figures for 2001 reflected the fact that fiscal 2000 had an extra week, along with the weakening economy and the elimination of its Stern's division.

Federated operates more than 450 stores in 34 states, Guam and Puerto Rico, under the names of Macy's, Bloomingdale's, The Bon Marche, Burdines, Goldsmith's, Lazarus and Rich's, as well as macys.com and Bloomingdale's By Mail.
