Google’s first foray into brick-and-mortar retail opens today in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, according to a corporate blog post.

“As we began the process to create our first retail store, the number of details to consider was daunting, but the opportunity at hand was amazing. We wanted our first store to reflect the same approach we take to designing our products: making sure they’re always helpful to people,” wrote Ivy Ross, VP, Hardware Design, UX & Research, and Nathan Allen, Head of Store Design & Special Projects.

The store offers customers hands-on interaction with the brand’s lineup of devices, like the Pixel phone and Nest products, and services. Inside, the space – designed by architect Reddymade (NY), is warm and inviting with a nod toward sustainability in the materials, building processes and mechanical systems specified. The building is certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council.
