Food Lion LLC (Salisbury, N.C.) announced it will be unveiling fresh makeovers at stores in Maryland and Delaware this week.

The 1220-unit supermarket chain, with stores in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions under the Food Lion and Bloom banners, has remodeled 63 stores in Maryland and Delaware.

“This is an exciting time for Food Lion and our customers, as we celebrate a fresh, new look, a greater selection of products, a new dedication to service and a renewed focus on delivering the freshest and best foods every day,” said Gaelo de la Fuente, Food Lion regional vp of retail operations. “Since the start of 2005, we have worked hard to make our stores more attractive and provide an enhanced shopping experience. We have paid special attention to our fresh departments — produce, meats and deli/bakery. The new and more inviting interior design signifies our commitment to offer the freshest produce, the best quality meats and an expanded selection in the deli and bakery, plus a far greater number of natural and organic products.”

More than 40 stores have added a new section called “Nature's Place,” devoted entirely to natural and organic products.

“We want customers to find our fresh departments comfortable, colorful and enticing, and easy to shop,” de la Fuente said. “At the same time, we have responded to customer requests for more natural and organic products and specialty items.”

The stores also feature redesigned grocery aisles, new customer service counters and checkout lanes and a new decor package, with new signs, graphics and colors and improved lighting.
