Bloomingdale's will open a home and furniture store in Chicago's Oakbrook Center

Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati) has announced that it will develop a new Bloomingdale's home and furniture store in Chicago's suburban Oakbrook Center.

Bloomingdale's, the New York-based division of Federated, recently introduced a freestanding home store concept in Las Vegas'Fashion Show Mall and twill open another one in February in downtown Chicago.

The Oakbrook Center store will include 90,000 square feet of retail space on three levels, space currently occupied by Saks Fifth Avenue. The remodeling will begin in February, with opening scheduled for fall 2003. The modern environment will offer a complete selection of home merchandise, including tabletop, housewares, rugs, furniture and food, presented in lifestyle settings.

“We're delighted to bring the best that Bloomingdale's has to offer to Oakbrook Center,” said Bloomingdale's chairman Michael Gould. “We look forward to serving Chicago's western suburbs in this new location, one of the premier centers in the area.”
