Hudson’s Bay Co. Ltd. (Toronto) has created a new division, HBC Digital, to drive its digital commerce. It has named Michael Burgess, who has been president of Saks Direct, as president of the entire operation, reporting directly to chairman and ceo Richard Baker.

Baker said the new operation is intended to drive e-commerce sales for all of HBC’s businesses, including Hudson’s Bay department stores, HBC Outlets, Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor.

“HBC Digital will leverage our scale and will help unlock a great deal of opportunity across all of our businesses,” Baker said. “As the customer’s expectations evolve and the lines between digital marketing and commerce blur even more, we feel this group not only creates near-term benefits, but will also enable HBC to become more nimble in the digital marketplace.”
