Target Corp. (Minneapolis) has signed a deal with Smith & Hawken Ltd. (Novato, Calif.) that will bring an exclusive line of the company’s upscale gardening and outdoor living brands to Target garden centers in late 2005 and to Target stores nationwide in March 2006.

“The addition of Smith & Hawken allows us to continue surprising our guests with well-respected brands at accessible prices,” said Target president Gregg Steinhafel. “Premium outdoor furniture and decor from Smith & Hawken are the perfect complement to our existing garden and patio offerings.”

Barry Sanders, president of Smith & Hawken, said the Target partnership is a perfect fit. “Since 1979, gardeners have known Smith & Hawken stands for uncompromising quality,” Sanders said. “We are excited that Target guests will be able to experience the quality and integrity of the Smith & Hawken brand when they visit Target stores next year.”

Smith & Hawken is one of the country’s leading marketers of garden-inspired outdoor living products, including Premium Teak furniture, Heirloom Tools collection, Eden Park garden structure and Hamilton Landing containers. It operates 59 Smith & Hawken stores and also sells at select, high-end independent garden centers. It is a division of Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. (Marysville, Ohio), which bought it last year.
