Starbucks (Seattle) workers in Buffalo, NY are organizing to form a union, an effort that has drawn widespread attention and is being closely watched in the retail and restaurant industries, The Buffalo News reports.

The article says top Starbucks brass – including Rossann Williams, EVP of US. Retail – has flown in from Seattle to visit with the Buffalo-area locations. While some workers have accused the company of employing intimidation tactics, Starbucks says the purpose of the visits is to understand employees’ needs.

Starbucks workers have attempted to form a union before, to no avail. This latest effort, however, could set the tone for similar worker movements elsewhere in the retail and restaurant sectors.
