JCPenney Promotes John Tighe

JCPenney (Plano, Texas) has promoted John Tighe to executive vp, chief merchant. His current role is senior vp and senior general merchandise manager over the men’s, children’s, footwear, handbag and intimate apparel divisions. The promotion will be effective Oct. 1, according to a press release.

Tighe will report to CEO Marvin Ellison, and he succeeds Elizabeth Sweney, who plans to retire at the end of the year after remaining in an advisory role through the transition.

Tighe has been with the company since 2002, when he was hired as a buyer. He was promoted as a divisional vp, and in 2009 started leading jcp.com as svp.
