New York-based J. Crew Group Inc. plans to open stores in capital cities in Europe and Asia and will begin shipping online orders to 107 countries as a way of testing the market, says ceo Millard “Mickey” Drexler, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The retailer is currently looking for retail space in Asia and Europe. J. Crew operates one store outside the U.S., in Toronto.

Drexler had previously said that the company was not looking at overseas expansion, calling it a distraction from domestic operations. “I'd always been hesitant, because I wanted to make sure it would give us the proper return on investment,” Drexler told WSJ. “We still had too much to do in America with all of our businesses.”

Initial plans call for launching stores in Hong Kong and London within the next year. J. Crew operates 225 full-line stores and 32 Madewell stores.
