Former Walgreens exec will oversee company's retail operations

Kohl's (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) has hired Sona Chawla as the company’s chief operating officer, effective Nov. 30. She will oversee the company’s retail operations and report to CEO Kevin Mansell.

Chawla has been with Walgreens (Deerfield, Ill.) since July 2008, when she was hired as svp of e-commerce. Her most recent role within the company has been as president of digital and chief marketing officer.

In 2015, The National Retail Federation (Washington, D.C.) listed Chawla as one of its “People Shaping Retail's Future,” naming her as a “power player” in the industry.

According to the Journal Sentinel, Chawla is a prime candidate to eventually be promoted to CEO in the future. Mansell plans to groom Chawla and another of the team’s executives to take over his position when he retires.
